Is 7 God’s Magical Number
The universe is infinite; man is but a speck in it. Trying to understand the design of the cosmos is beyond man’s comprehension. There are beauty and a method in every step of God’s creation. From the infinitesimally huge planets to the infinitesimally minute butterflies, there is a system underlying all this. Where there is an order there is math, the science of numbers. The one number which quietly underlies all creation is number 7. Let’s look. There are the Seven Wonders of the World, the seven seas, the seven continents, and many more. The interesting fact lies in the creation of the universe which took God seven days to create. The seven strings on the guitar or the Veena in unison produce a melody. The fable of the Pandora’s Box reveals that on opening the box the seven deadly sins emerged and thus man fell a victim to these. While the world was unaware of these sins (wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, gluttony and envy.), Pandora opened a plethora for man to succumb. A Hindu devotee would very religiously trek the seven hills to reach the abode of the Tirumala. Do we understand that with each hill we surmount, we are supposed to conquer one sin after another and it is only after we control them that we visualize God? Is 7 then an ordinary number or does Is 7 God’s Magical Number?
This leads one to delve into one’s own body and mind to realize that there are seven endocrine glands in the body each producing a specific hormone. Behind all this design is the inner core of a man’s body. The seven chakras beginning at the base of the spine and ending with the crown chakra are responsible for the entire physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual balance of the body. Perhaps the most beautiful explanation of the mystical significance of the number lies in the colors of the rainbow (VIBGYOR) each color related to each chakra in the body. As the seven colors unite, the dazzling white, the color of consciousness reveals itself.
